1.  WITH YOUR PERMISSION
by Kerry Phillips © 2007

VERSE 1:
I wonder just
how much you love me
I think about that all the time
Anything else is just
a mere distraction
From what I consider to be really prime

If you want to call me up
Say you need a little cup
Of a cold 7-Up
To fix a bad hiccup
I’ll bring it to you

If you want, I will go
To a hoochie-coo show
And dance a little dance
With a feather and a bow
Though I would hate that

CHORUS 1:
But I’ll do anything you want me to
If you say I should
Baby, I’ll do anything you want me to
‘Cause you said I could
Yeah, you said I could
Yeah, you said I could

VERSE 2:
What I need I guess
is more direction
I’ve needed that all my life
I need a sense of purpose
more than money
Though your words can cut me
deeper than a knife

If you want to lay claim
To a person so tame
I’m a moth you’re a flame
And you know my name
So just speak it

If you want to charge a fee
I’ll pay it with glee
I’m flowers, you’re bees
I’m crackers, you’re cheese
So let me spread you
Yeah, I’m reaching for a lyric

CHORUS 2:
But I’ll do anything you want me to
If you say I should
Baby, I’ll do anything you want me to
‘Cause you said I could
Yeah, you said I could
Yeah, you said I could

BRIDGE:
I’ll be your sweet possession
Your love is my obsession
Here is my confession:
Pleasing you
is now my new
Profession

INSTRUMENTAL

VERSE 3:
What I need I guess
is steady guidance
I learned that back in Sunday school
What I need is just
some reassurance
That it’s okay to play the constant fool

You confound me
Try to get around me
Always astound me
Even rebound me
Like a basketball

And I will love you more
Than a Target store
Or a hardwood floor
Or Albert Gore

With Your Permission
With Your Permission
With Your Permission

CHORUS 3
But I’ll do anything you want me to
If you say I should
Baby, I - will - do -
anything you want me to
‘Cause you said I could

Yeah, you said I could
Yeah, you said I could
Yeah, you said I could
2.  MOOD WONDERFUL MOOD
by Kerry Phillips  © 2007

CHORUS 1:
I’m in a Mood, Wonderful Mood
Ev’rything is as it should be
In this Mood, Wonderful Mood
Can’t help bein’ so happy

VERSE 1:
Some of the time
I’m feelin’ kinda blues-y
Never seem to get past a big frown
But, oh, not today (Not today)
I’m feelin’ kinda woozy
From a sunny disposition
And a clarity of vision
Has me reelin’
Got a funny feelin’
That ev’rything’s gonna be fine
Yes, I’m believin’
That I’m seein’
The best and it’s gonna be mine

Can’t put my finger on what it can be
Or try to explain what’s happened to me
Don’t care about ‘tomorrow’,
I’m busy with ‘now’
Don’t really understand it, but even somehow

CHORUS 2:
I’m in a Mood, Wonderful Mood
Ev’rything is as it should be
In this Mood, Wonderful Mood
My fingers are feelin’ so snappy

VERSE 2:
So-called friends
Are quick to criticize
And they wanna chastise
Ev’ry little thing I do
But not today (Not today)
They would hardly recognize
That I’m counterclockwise
And it doesn’t matter if they say,

“Oh, Bertolt!  You’ve got catsup on your tie!
Oh, Bertolt!  You’re a messy ol’ thing.
On top of the washing machine
Is some spot remover.”
I will maneuver
Myself just out of their way
‘Cause I’m refrainin’
From complainin’
I’m livin’ just for today

So, try to bring me down
with some terrible news
Tell me that, no matter what, I’m gonna lose
Ask me how it’s goin’? Hey, it’s goin’ swell
And nothin’ that they say or do
is gonna dispel

CHORUS 3:
This Mood, Wonderful Mood
Planets must be in alignment
In this Mood, Wonderful Mood
Happiness is my assignment

BRIDGE
Oh, can love be the only reason
For what this mood is about?
Oh, yeah, love can cause
A sudden termination
Of all your sorry self-doubt
But love, this time,
Is not the explanation
And it’s not ‘cause of
Prescription medication

That’s keepin’ me
breezin’ along with the breeze
Makin’ me sing of the birds and the bees
I can’t deny it,  I won’t defy it
It keeps persistin’ and
there’s simply no resistin’

CHORUS 4:
This Mood, Wonderful Mood
Not talkin’ sausage and mustard
Mood, Wonderful Mood
Sweet like cookies and custard

INSTRUMENTAL
Ah . . .
Dit-dit-dit-dit did-dle-dy dah dih da
Dit-dit-dit-dit did-dle-dy dah dih da
Dih-Da-da, Dih-Da-da,
Da-da-da-da-da-da,
Da-da-da-da-da-da,
Da-da-da-da-da-da-DAH
Da-dah, ah, oh, oh
This Mood (this wonderful mood) ooo-oo
This Mood (this wonderful mood), ooo-oo
This Mood
3.  EASY LABOR
by Kerry Phillips © 2008

Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, ah ah ah
Ah-ah, Ah-ah, Ah-ah, ah-ah-ah-ah-ah

VERSE 1:
The Boy was born and his mom declared,
“He was an Easy Labor.”
Growing up, he was an okay kid
According to a neighbor
Once in school the consensus was
Per a teacher
“The Boy is bright, but won’t apply himself.
He’s a middle achiever”

CHORUS 1:
And so on it went
He would present
And exhibit the same behavior
Satisfied pursuing a life of mediocrity
And Easy Labor.  Easy Labor.

VERSE 2:
The Boy became a man and fell in love
(i guess)
With a plain little girl out from the Midwest
He asked the plain girl to be his wife
She said, “Sure”
And they began life
In a bland little house on a cul-de-sac
With a small front yard and a tree out back
He took employ with an obscure firm
But the pay was all right and the job long term

CHORUS 2:
He spent much of the day
Piddling away
At an endless stack of paper
But he never complained as he maintained
his position of
Easy Labor.  Easy Labor.

BRIDGE 1:
He and the plain wife played at procreation.
Now this is what his children tell:
They didn’t know him well
No not very well
But they never heard him yell
He was so easy.
As a father he was Easy Labor.

INSTRUMENTAL
La-da, da da . . .

VERSE 3:
His today was like the day before
His tomorrow the same --  only more
Christmas, New Year’s and birthdays
All were spent in the very same way

On and on and blah, blah, blah
Ad nauseam
Nothing ever changed for good or bad
Because of him

CHORUS 3:
Oh so on it went
He would present
And exhibit the same behavior
Satisfied, pursuing a life of mediocrity
And Easy Labor.  Easy Labor.

BRIDGE 2:
Now we find our Boy aging with old age
Sleeping in his room most of the day
And then he passed away
What more can I say?
Look…he’s dead, okay?
How easy.  Easy.

VERSE 4:
So won’t you come to the service?
'Cause no one else will
It won’t take long and obviously,
you have time to kill.
There will be food and lots of booze
In addition,
The parking is free
You’re all invited and there is no need
To R. S. V. P.

BRIDGE 3:
So as they lower him
into the cool, dark ground
A silence falls most profound. . .
And then we walk away
We’re calling it a day
Oh and by the way, did you hear
The undertaker say,

“Ha!  He was easy.”
He was an Easy Labor.
So easy
Such an Easy Labor
Nothing major
Just Easy Labor
Easy Labor.

That's it.
I D'WANNA DO IT
4.  I D'WANNA DO IT
by Kerry Phillips © 1980

VERSE 1:
I've worked the oil fields way down in Texas
I've worked the state farm up in Tennessee
When I was down on my luck,
I drove an eighteen-wheeler truck
And this comes straight from the heart of me:

CHORUS 1:
I D'Wanna Do It
I just want to sing about it
I d'wanna sweat it
I just want to forget it
I never want to work hard,
Just want to play my guitar
Drink ice-cold beer
And honky-tonk with you.

VERSE 2:
I've heard love grows sweeter day by day
I've heard pure devotion lasts eternally
But there's people split apart
And they pine away with a broken heart
Well, if that's romance,
I got one more thing to say:

CHORUS 2:
I D'Wanna Do It
I just want to sing about it
I d'wanna sweat it
I just want to forget it
I never want to work hard,
Just want to play my guitar
Drink ice-cold beer
And honky-tonk with you.

BRIDGE 1:
I'm not the sort of cowpoke who
Rides the range
I prefer a rowdy bar to the lone prairie
I like my women fast, all right
And the good times to last all night
So if you wanna tie me down,
Y'all just listen to me

INSTRUMENTAL

BRIDGE 2:
I'm not the sort of cowpoke who
Rides the range
I prefer a rowdy bar to the lone prairie
I like my women fast, all right
And the good times to last all night
So if you wanna tie me down,
Y'all just listen to me

CHORUS 3:
I D'Wanna Do It
I don't even wanna sing about it
I d'wanna talk about it
I d'wanna hum about it
I d'wanna shout about it
Or even think about it
Just drink ice-cold beer
And honky-tonk all night
Drink ice-cold beer
And honky-tonk all night
